The appeal of protocols and the challenge of complexity: developing mastery through the learning of the Therapeutic Reconsolidation Process

The development of mastery in psychotherapy is a complex process, influenced by a combination of structured training, accumulated experience, and a deep understanding of the mechanisms of change. This article explores how crucial factors such as supervision, reflective practice, experience, and conscious choice between manualized and non-manualized approaches converge to develop clinical effectiveness, particularly through the lens of the Therapeutic Reconsolidation Process (TRP), which activates the neuroplastic mechanism of Memory Reconsolidation. The article aims to provide food for thought for the continuous development of effective clinical practice, with particular reference to the Social-Cognitive Transactional Analysis (SCTA) model. Readers are referred to the bibliography for further information on Memory Reconsolidation, the TRP, and Coherence Therapy, an intervention model developed by Bruce Ecker and colleagues that is perfectly aligned with the TRP.
